Native American Legend : Coyote and the Stars.

Coyote, in his curious and mischievous manner, observes the Creator meticulously placing stars in the night sky from a bag, arranging them with great care. Intrigued, Coyote asks if he might assist in this celestial task. The Creator agrees, entrusting Coyote with the responsibility while reminding him to maintain the orderliness of the stars as he places them.

Initially, Coyote follows the Creator’s instructions, carefully arranging the stars. However, true to his nature, he grows impatient. In a moment of impulsiveness, Coyote hurls the entire bag of stars across the sky, scattering them in a chaotic manner. The Creator reprimands Coyote for his recklessness and the disorder he has caused. Chastened, Coyote departs with a sense of regret.

Despite the Creator’s admonishment, Coyote soon returns to his usual behavior. Yet, each night, as he gazes upon the disarrayed stars, he cannot help but howl, a reminder of the haphazard pattern he created in the sky.

This retelling is shared with respect for the living traditions and cultural heritage of the people to whom it belongs.
